Description

To play txalaparta – this instrument made of vertically struck wooden planks – two players are required. The two musicians unite to create an instrument, a music, a living dialogue in perpetual motion.

The Artze brothers, who revived this instrument in the 1970s, have always been part of the Ezkandrai and Errobiko Festibala family.

The philosophy that drives this music, this instrument, is deeply rooted in our DNA.

This year, for the third time, we offer with Txomin Dhers a workshop to practice this tradition.

Open to all, to discover or deepen the art of rhythmic dialogue and improvisation between two musicians.

Program

Discovering txalaparta, philosophical and technical approach via 'Txakun', rhythm exploration, duo playing and improvisation.

Txomin Dhers

Txomin Dhers is a passionate multi-instrumentalist from the Basque Country, dedicated to txalaparta — its rhythms, its spirit, its tradition.

He has performed with Jean-Claude Enrique "ttikia" for ten years, with Sergio Lamuedra in the Kimu duo, and with the groups Xiberoots, Mairu, Basabi and Txaptrax.

He now focuses on concerts and teaching txalaparta through workshops, lessons, and conferences.

"Txalaparta is a way of life. I’d even say it’s like life itself. It’s the only instrument in the world that is played exclusively by two people. You must learn to breathe, to listen to the other, to leave space, and sometimes to assert yourself. It’s the act of two beings wanting to express themselves. When you play txalaparta, you’re never alone — like in life, you must learn to live together."
