“GAUA” — “the night” in Basque — is a territory of shadows, whispers, and hidden struggles. In this piece, four performers invoke those who have danced despite all opposition through the centuries.

Following in the footsteps of Basque women who were hidden, forbidden, or punished for dancing in public, they make present-day bodies resonate.

Nourished by collective memory and committed choreography, GAUA pays homage to dances of resistance, to sisterhood, and to the necessity of free movement.
